The Regent University School of Law has conducted an Academic Success Program (ASP) for students since 1995.

Academic Success Program

We are thoroughly committed to our students’ success. For decades, Regent Law has conducted an Academic Success Program (ASP) designed to help students achieve their highest potential in law school.

The Office of Admissions and Admissions Committee select admitted students to participate if they possess a strong likelihood of success in law school but their LSAT scores, undergraduate GPAs, or other factors suggest that additional skills instruction would be beneficial. Students who are not selected to participate also have the option to participate voluntarily.

The ASP has three components:

  • Summer Program: An intensive, week-long program designed to develop critical reading, analytical, study, and test-taking skills.
  • Strategies for Academic Success Course: A one-credit fall class designed to supplement the summer program and first-semester coursework. The course addresses topics such as techniques for reading and briefing cases, preparing for class, notetaking, time management and study skills, problem solving, outlining, preparing for and taking law school assessments, and student wellness. The course incorporates personal advising by ASP and other faculty members, as well as peer mentors, to guide students toward academic and personal growth.
  • Ongoing Personal Support: A spring semester component designed primarily for students whose first-semester grades put them at academic risk, but available to all interested students. Students receive instruction on preparing for and taking law school assessments and are personally advised by ASP and other faculty members, as well as peer mentors, providing effective strategies for academic improvement.
