Bio

Dr. Sharon Mbabazi Greene began her professional journey in a different field, but after moving to the United States, she felt compelled to pursue a childhood dream of serving others through mental health services.

Growing up in post-genocide Rwanda, she witnessed the lasting effects of trauma on individuals and communities—experiences that inspired her commitment to helping others, but also exposed her to the human capacity for post-traumatic growth.

Her clinical training and internship, including her work at the Hampton VA Medical Center, strengthened her passion for trauma-informed care and her understanding of the complexities of recovery in diverse populations. These experiences guide her teaching and mentoring as she prepares students for the realities of clinical practice with individuals from varied cultural backgrounds.

Dr. Greene is passionate about bringing a global perspective into the classroom, encouraging students to think beyond borders and explore the unique challenges of providing mental health services in underserved communities worldwide. She also values learning from innovative approaches from the Global South to broaden students’ understanding of healing and growth across cultures.

While she hopes to inspire future psychologists to explore ways they can contribute to international mental health efforts, she also seeks to encourage reflection on how these insights translate to work in the United States, particularly when serving immigrant, refugee, or other culturally diverse populations. Her goal is to equip students with skills and perspectives that are applicable both globally and locally, promoting culturally responsive, trauma-informed care wherever they practice.

Beyond her professional work, Dr. Greene enjoys spending time with her husband and children, exploring new activities together, and creating lasting memories as a family.
